If you’ve been a client of mine or simply reading my blog posts or Facebook updates, you know that I am always on a mission to help you to improve. My mission is to help you move forward, overcome any roadblocks that come your way, kick your “stuck” to the curb and light a fire in your life that helps you to live the life you are meant to live!
However, if you are only focused on moving forward, you may create a roadblock or stuck point without realizing it. I call this particular stuck moment, “The Chigger”.
Stuck – The Chiggers
What is this “stuck” about?
The Chigger is tricky. You’ll be moving along in your Reset Plan and suddenly you are struck by how far you still have to go. You look around you and think that you’ll never reach your goal. You may even wonder why you got started in the first place. The frustration of your current situation is all you can think about and giving up on your current goal seems like the best option.
Why is it called “The Chigger”?
In nature, chiggers are only about 1/50th of an inch (0.5 mm) in diameter and are too small to be seen with the naked eye. After a day having fun in the woods (riding horses, hiking, walking, exploring, etc.), you come home and realize that you are incredibly itchy around your waist and ankles. You look down and realize that the itching has revealed red bumps on the your skin. Immediately, your attention is on the chiggers and how to get rid of them at all costs.
How is it prevented?
The best way to prevent this particular “stuck” is to review your progress on a weekly basis. It’s human nature to focus on your failings. It takes effort and self-training to pay more attention to your successes. At the end of each week (or daily, if this is something you struggle with more frequently), write down all of the ways that you were successful in moving toward your goals. Reward yourself appropriately and plan for your next week.
Getting Rid of The Chigger
What if The Chigger has already entered your life? The best way to move forward is to immediately stop attacking yourself and instead, forgive yourself. Forgive yourself of everything. Talk with a loving voice to yourself. If you need to, imagine that you’re talking to a younger version of yourself. Forgive all of your failings to this point and begin again with a clean slate.
Then take one day at a time towards a new you.
Be BOLD and Kick Your “Stuck” to the Curb™
Great advice. One day at a time is the best way to go.
Thanks, Ellen!
Oh my, were you peeking inside my brain today? Up to now, I’ve had a raging case of the chiggers! Just got home from a great study group where I was introduced to “up to know” then read your post. Thank you for helping me with the tools to take my next step!
Many blessings
MamaRed
Hi MamaRed! I’m so glad the post helped you and I wish you great success in your life!
I wrote about being stuck today, too! How funny! Though no mention of chiggers…
Hey MelAnn! I think there were several people on the same wavelength today. In fact, Kathy Hadley wrote about being addicted to our emotions (http://www.kathyhadleylifecoach.blogspot.com/2013/04/are-we-addicted-to-our-emotions.html) which is certainly a way to get stuck as well. Thanks for coming by!
thank you. i was about to sit down and veg out in front of the tv, but something drew me to the computer. I typed in “how to change your life”, as i have been stuck for the last 10 yrs and i cant take it anymore. thank you for being out there. i have tried everything… but i like the fact of turning everything off and not holding back. cant wait to try it. thank you. all the best to all you guys who are in the same boat as me.
Ivy, I’m so glad you came by. You took the biggest first step which is to take action. Instead of sitting in front of the TV, you got up and took action to find an answer. Keep doing that and take action on what you find. you’ll get to where you want to go. 🙂
